The Rolling Stone is a biweekly American magazine that reports on music, pop culture, and politics. The News company was first founded in San Francisco in 1967 by Jann Wenner and Ralph Gleason. Jann Wenner was a former student at the University of California at Berkley and Ralph, a jazz critic for the San Francisco Chronicle newspaper. The creators intended for the magazine to be a barometer of the artistic tastes and political sensibilities of the student generation. Their first issue appeared on November 9, 1967, with John Lenon on the cover, which was a big deal at the time. The company was first started with issues such as the hippie movement, soldiers from the war, and politicians. The company began with a more cultural, musical, and political outlook which made their mark for years to come to defining them for what they’re known for 50 years later. From the start, the creators made the Rolling Stone in way that made the news company passionate yet professional in the way language is utilized within issues on the Rolling Stone. Many famous writers and journalists such as, Lester Bangs, Greil Marcus, and Cameron Crowe, made their mark with their careers by starting at the Rolling Stone.Up until the 90’s the magazine was fairly political then there was a switch to a bigger focus to appeal the younger readers. They began to focus more on youth-oriented television shows, actors, and popular music shifting toward showing popular culture related topics. This has brought the Rolling Stone to what defines them today as an American biweekly news company based solely on popular culture in most aspects of life. Politics, Arts, Social issues, and etc. From news papers to computers the Rolling Stone news paper has made its mark to its modern state as it just came up on its 50th anniversary.
